Persona communication constellations

A communication constellation shows the “use community” represented by your personas. Communication constellations show how your personas are linked to or interact with one another through your product. This is much like the model for roles, except that it is simpler and is created as part of the contextual design process (Beyer and Holtzblatt, 1998). To create a communication constellation (see Figure 5.6), generate an image that expresses the (highly simplified) relationships among the personas. Include all personas and the product you are creating, and draw lines between these images to show the connections and the relative “proximity” of each persona to your product. You can also include other users (roles), artifacts, systems, or products that will affect the use of your product. Communication constellations are highly useful early in the communication campaign to help people understand why you created your particular personas and the fact that the personas will have different levels of interaction with the product.
